All, We had a productive meeting today (01/18/2025) over zoom. There were representative from Mekelle , EdagArbi, EU and U.S.A who attended the close to an hr short meeting. The meeting was shorten due to other commitments and time conflict. Main takeaways…. Since we met last time, two weeks ago, the initial earth work of the Miacheqmte portion of the project has been completed. The Macheqemte portion of the road was extended to cover 4KM more. The road is now extended all the way to Hahaiyle border. It was reported, the excavator and other machines have been transported to EdagaArbi to start the Hiberet project. Good News (Bonus News) While waiting to start the next phase, the machines were used to rehabilitate the road between Abune Tsahma Gedam and Ketema EdagaArbi. Kudos! Phase one MyCheqemete Report Reading… Solomon covered a short brief summary report that was shared live. The report summarizes fund collected so far and expense details for the MyCheqemete leg of the project. So far over 3.5M birr has been collected and of this over 2M birr has been used. The report included the main challenges faced and suggestions going forward. Among the main issues covered in the report are: shortage of funds, fuel cost increase and lack of trust by the people to deposit collected funds to central account. It was also reported that lack of funds is becoming an issue to demand for more machineries from Serawit Tigray. After the summary report was discussed, the diaspora representatives shared their report. EU and Australia have almost collected all Pledge donations. There are one or two pledges uncollected. The U.S campaign has entered Phase2. Those who failed to participate during phase1 are still honoring their pledges. It was reported the U.S campaign was able to wire transfer $10000 dollars during Phase1. Going Forward Participants agree to work hard to raise awareness and collect the funds. More engagement is still needed with the public to finish the remaining road works which includes more funds and public participation. TV Tigray coverage is still on. The TV crew is expected to arrive in the area during the upcoming Abune Tsahma holiday event. Recommendations… Participants raised more questions and recommendations that will help in smooth operation and to build a better understanding and trust among the people and donors.
